Folks have asked me what the writs of membership are. Simply? They’re props. They are conversation starters. One can be left around the house for a child to find and it leads to you being able to tell them that as a member of the Order of Saint Nicholas, you are Santa Claus. Then you can read the book, show how Nicholas became a Saint and then a legend, and how we can turn Christmas into a religious tradition of giving more-so than a consumer holiday of stress. Ours are hanging on a wall as a Christmas decoration, so our 5 year old has constant reinforcement that Christmas is about giving gifts, not getting them.
